May 2008 RTE Publishing Expands Television News to Mobile With StreamZChannel One and the Digital Rapids capture server have a Live video SDI input of RTE1, a GPI input, and a reference signal input to ensure there are no lip-sync problems. When a News event GPI signal is sent, Channel One switches to LIVE. The capture server also starts to record the same program at the same time. After each part of the news programme is finished an end GPI signal is sent and the Channel One switches off LIVE and plays RTÉ interstitial video clips. The recorded programme is copied automatically over to the Channel One server. Channel One points at a folder for that programme and will automatically play any parts that are copied there. 30 seconds after the live program finishes, this recorded content is available to be looped. The captured and live content format is 16:9 PAL 2MB WMV and is of high quality. The output of Channel One is sent to Digital Rapids StreamZ, cropped to 4:3 resolution and streamed to Mobile operators in the WMV or 3GP format they require.
Impressed with Digital Rapids' reliability, RTÉ Publishing can also foresee future uses for video content generation for web and mobile. 12
