February 2008 Digital Rapids’ StreamZ Empowers Major Event Webcasts for Streaming TankTwo Digital Rapids StreamZ encoders were used, each running two streams: one at 384kbps and one at 160kbps. The use of two encoders with two streams each provided automatic backup, enabled bandwidth detection for connection speed, and provided the ability to detect when there was no stream running. This was achieved through specially designed Adobe Flash-based players to work in conjunction with both the Digital Rapids encoders and the content delivery networks with bandwidth detection and encoder detection.
The feed from XLVideo was provided through breakout cables using analogue composite video and balanced audio. Four streams of video were encoded, whilst the image and audio were monitored and output through WiMax connections via two microwave link aerials that Streaming Tank placed at the top of the main stage. The StreamZ systems also handled the numerous graphic overlays used throughout the webcasts.
Stella Artois
Streaming Tank is often called upon for product and press launches. Recently Streaming Tank was asked to help launch Stella Artois’ new cinematic experience online. For over 30 years, Stella Artois has constantly been setting new standards for creative communications. This incredible website (www.stellaartois.com) was no exception. The site had been in production for over a year, developed by agency Lowe London, and it seemed only right to launch the site to the press online also.
Streaming Tank, working alongside Lowe London, MS&L Public Relations, and InBev (the parent company of the Stella Artois brand) launched the site to the press via a live webcast from the InBev headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. The webcast was hosted by Frank Abernante, Global Director of Brands for InBev, Neil Gannon, Global Brand Manager for Stella Artois and Gwendoline Ornigg, corporate External Communications Director for InBev, with Streaming Tank providing the end-to-end webcast production including a three-camera shoot; vision and audio mixing; a production microsite with live Q & A; and live Microsoft Windows Media and RealMedia feeds. 123
