One of the most powerful capabilities of Silverlight is support for Microsoft IIS Smooth Streaming, an HTTP-based platform that enables adaptive delivery of live and on-demand content to Silverlight-based video media players. IIS Smooth Streaming dynamically detects the best quality a viewer can receive based on their current bandwidth and local computer conditions, seamlessly switching between multiple streams at different bit-rates to deliver consistent, high-quality viewing experiences up to true HD even under changing connectivity and playback conditions.
Digital Rapids offers the industry's highest-performance and highest-quality IIS Smooth Streaming solutions. Our systems support live and on-demand IIS Smooth Streaming in the H.264 and VC-1 compression formats. Building on our acclaimed ability to output multiple formats, resolutions and bit rates simultaneously, our IIS Smooth Streaming solutions output the most concurrent IIS Smooth Streaming layers -- seven concurrent VC-1 IIS Smooth Streaming outputs including full 720p resolution on the latest StreamZHD systems, and even higher performance (more concurrent streams, outputs up to full 1080p30) in the H.264 format. Multiple systems can be synchronized to encode the same source for adaptive streaming applications requiring a greater number of simultaneous streams.
Support for live and/or file-based IIS Smooth Streaming output is available in StreamZ, StreamZHD, DRC-Stream, Digital Rapids Transcode Manager and select models of StreamZ Live, including the StreamZHD Live ABR model optimized for adaptive streaming. (For live Smooth Streaming at HD resolution and synchronization across multiple encoders, StreamZHD or StreamZHD Live ABR are required). PlayReady content access technology is supported for the protection of IIS Smooth Streaming media, ensuring that high-value content is used only as specified by the content owner and only by authorized users.
