Tanweer Group S.A. Covers Middle East and Beyond with Digital Rapids StreamZ

Tanweer Group S.A., the leading TV content provider in the Middle East, has installed Digital Rapids StreamZ in their main studio in Dubai. Purchased through Digital Rapids distributor MediaCast Fz. LLC, the StreamZ 1500xs is providing encoding in multiple formats and content delivery to their offices in Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon.

Established in 1985, Tanweer Group S.A. is a media organization specializing in post-production and distribution of television programs and feature films to the Middle Eastern & Mediterranean region. With principal offices in Dubai Media City and regional offices in Athens, London, Amman, Cairo, Damascus and Beirut, the Group also owns three post-production studio facilities in Dubai Media City, Damascus and Amman providing editing, subtitling, dubbing, encoding / format conversion, digital video content delivery and other post-production services.

Tanweer Group exclusively represents some of the world’s largest and foremost production companies including, Buena Vista Int’l (The Walt Disney Co.) and Sony Pictures (Columbia Tri-Star Int’l). Covering some 17 countries ranging from the Gulf region to Egypt, Lebanon, North Africa and Pakistan, the Group’s clientele includes all State broadcasters in Middle East and major Pan-Arab Satellite broadcasters such as MBC, Al-Arabiya Channel, Dubai Media Incorporated, Al-Jazeera Satellite Channel, Gulf DTH, Orbit and IRIB.

Digital Rapids’ StreamZ is being used to encode to Windows Media 9 files for screening, enabling Tanweer to send samples of their production work to broadcasters for selection. Additionally, the MPEG-2 format at 15Mbps is used for content delivery over their network to broadcasters and 50Mbps MPEG-2 is utilised both to send material to Tanweer’s post production facilities for further work on the content and also for video archiving. RealMedia encoding also captures video with time-code for translation and voice-over purposes.

Tanweer feel that a proper content delivery system requires video on different formats. Their previous encoding facility had been purely software based, which had limited options when it came to providing multiple formats at the highest quality. They also liked StreamZ’s colour space conversion capabilities, allowing colour spaces to be changed before encoding to accommodate varying video signals. In future, Tanweer is also planning to provide services such as Video on Demand for its broadcast clients.
