Digital Rapids Encodes Content for IBC TV News for Third Year Running

Markham, Ontario: Digital Rapids – a leading developer of solutions for content ingest, encoding, transcoding, protection and delivery – has been chosen to provide encoding and webstreaming services for the IBC TV News web presence for the third consecutive year. Along with partners Datmedia (Stand 1.154, www.datmedia.com), Digital Rapids will be responsible for the timely encoding and delivery of news stories to the site, both as daily packages and up-to-the-minute web exclusives.

In association with the IBC Mobile Zone, now in its second year, Digital Rapids will also be responsible for the encoding of selected stories to 3GPP and MPEG4 formats for download to mobile devices such as 3G cell phones.

IBC TV News encoding will be performed using a Digital Rapids StreamZ™ content encoding server running the recently-released Stream 2.3 software. Stories will be fed to StreamZ live via SDI from the IBC TV News edit suites, and encoded in real time to Windows and Real media formats. The StreamZ encoding software will then automatically transfer the files to Datmedia’s servers for hosting.

StreamZ encoding solutions combine powerful capture and processing hardware with the intuitive Stream software, delivering real-time, multi-format media encoding, transcoding and streaming for applications including IPTV, VOD, mobile distribution and more. The advanced, hardware-based video processing features – including motion adaptive de-interlacing, filtering, and 3D motion-adaptive noise reduction – enable optimum quality and the most efficient use of bandwidth in the compressed result.

“We are very pleased to have been selected to provide the encoding for IBC TV News again this year,” said Clive Vickery, Managing Director of Digital Rapids. “The use of StreamZ for previous years’ IBC TV News has been very successful, and visitors to the show and the site are again ensured a high-quality experience.”

datpresenter™ DPX V2.0, the latest release of Datmedia's versatile AJAX server-side streaming applications, is a browser-based, install-free rich media player with an archiving and cataloguing facility. datpresenter DPX V2.0 is one of the most technically advanced online rich media players on the market and it has been customised to suit the requirements of the IBC TV News site. Viewers may playback the complete archive of last year’s stories as well as the latest news as it happens at IBC 2006. Searchable supporting information such as stand locations, written copy, links to downloadable documents and other websites, and even speaker photos help place the newsreel in a clear context and take viewers directly to areas of interest. Behind the scenes, datpresenter DPX 2.0's XHTML-based administration tools have drastically cut production time for both video stream and supporting timeline media. datpresenter’s software is the ideal tool for reliably and cost-effectively harnessing next-generation IPTV triple play services using existing technology and networks. datpresenter can be test-driven at the Datmedia IBC stand or the Datmedia web site.
