Digital Rapids Debuts Enterprise Management Applications for Live Stream Encoding and Distributed Transcoding

NAB2006, Las Vegas, Nevada: Digital Rapids, a leader in video ingest, encoding, transcoding, and media delivery systems, is debuting new enterprise-level tools for managing multiple Digital Rapids Stream encoding and transcoding systems at NAB2006.

Stream Broadcast Manager is designed to manage and control multiple live encoding systems, handling encoder resource management, status updates, failover, and alerts. Stream Broadcast Manager centralizes control of all aspects of the streaming encoders from scheduling to failover and maintenance modes. Systems can be stopped at pre-determined times to allow system maintenance, and Stream Broadcast Manager will automatically bring the backup systems online while the primary systems are in maintenance mode. Additional features of Stream Broadcast Manager include automated setup using network discovery protocols, scheduling, extensive notification including customized reports, and individual or group system management.

“In the past year, we have been working closely with an increasing number and variety of customers who are serious about IPTV,” said Brick Eksten, President of Digital Rapids Corporation. “They have multiple encoders — one for each channel they want to stream — and their operations are simplified by managing all of the encoders from one centralized console application. Broadcast Manager provides them with the tools to do so.”

Stream Transcode Manager is designed to manage large transcoding jobs involving many media files and multiple transcoding nodes, intelligently assigning jobs in order to automatically make the most efficient use of the available transcoding resources. Transcode Manager features automated load balancing, failover management, notification, and publishing reports.

“Transcode Manager is also in direct response to customer need,” continued Eksten. “We have customers with large video archives that they need to update to the latest digital formats. Some of these libraries are massive, so providing them with an efficient way to manage multiple transcode systems significantly streamlines their workflow and maximizes their throughput.”

Broadcast Manager is scheduled for release in Q2 2006, with Transcode Manager slated for availability later in the year.
