April 24, 2006 Digital Rapids’ New Stream VOD Packager Simplifies VOD Server File Creation
NAB2006, Las Vegas, Nevada: Digital Rapids, a leader in video ingest, encoding, transcoding, and media delivery systems, has launched the Stream VOD Packager. This software application provides a user-friendly interface for creating metadata structures compatible with the CableLabs® VOD Metadata Specification and packaging them with selected media for use with Video on Demand (VOD) broadcast servers.
“With the Stream VOD Packager, customers using our Stream encoding solutions to make MPEG2 files compatible with the CableLabs content encoding specification can package those files in VOD server-ready form. We wanted to simplify the process, so that packaging the media was as simple as the encoding the MPEG2 files in Stream,” said Brick Eksten, President of Digital Rapids Corporation. “Together, Stream VOD Packager and our industry-leading Stream encoders offer an unparalleled combination of input format flexibility, quality, productivity and cost-effectiveness for the creation of server-ready VOD files.”
The Stream VOD Packager application has tools for both advanced users and basic operators. Advanced users are able to create or customize templates that include fields for the metadata needed for their particular VOD server. Basic operators can then open the pre-defined templates and fill in the data required. When the operator has finished entering the data, the application will verify all required fields before making the package.
Further simplifying operation, when making MPEG2 files meeting CableLabs’ specifications, the Stream software can generate a file which can be loaded into Stream VOD Packager to automatically fill in the metadata fields relating to the media file.
The Stream VOD Packager software can be run on any Windows XP or Windows Server 2003 system, and need not be on the same system as the Stream encoder — thus leaving the encoding systems available for their intended tasks.
The Stream VOD Packager is available immediately.
