Digital Rapids Extends Top-Tier Encoding Capabilities with StreamPro and StreamEnterprise 2.4 Software Upgrades

NAB2007, Las Vegas, Booth SL10705: Digital Rapids today announced the new version 2.4 upgrade for the StreamPro™ and StreamEnterprise™ software, further extending the capabilities that have made Digital Rapids encoding solutions the preferred choice of major studios, post facilities and broadcasters producing content for VOD, IPTV and other advanced content distribution platforms. Enhancements include a new adaptive inverse telecine plug-in with broken cadence support, integration with the Stream Transcode Manager™ line of distributed transcoding software, a flexible new multiplexing (“muxing”) architecture, and support for new options including MXF input and the Digital Rapids Studio AVC Encoder™.

The adaptive inverse telecine plug-in enables removal of 3:2 pulldown from content that had been converted from progressive to interlaced, with configurable look-ahead to detect and accommodate breaks in the 3:2 cadence. Stream Transcode Manager integration allows transcoding tasks to be submitted to Digital Rapids’ intelligent distributed transcoding system directly from the Stream software interface. Ideal for complex multi-format encodes of ingested live and tape content, this integration allows the ingest station to perform a single real-time capture and offload the remaining encoding tasks – maximizing throughput and quickly freeing up the station for further ingest.

The new flexible muxing architecture enables simultaneous output of multiple elementary and transport streams targeting a wide variety of platforms including set-top boxes. The simultaneous output of multiple multiplexed streams also enables the creation of deliverables with varying audio types and multiple language combinations in a single step. Closed Caption data can be embedded into a SMPTE VC-1 elementary stream during encoding and muxed with audio into the ASF format. The advanced muxer also provides a foundation for the optional Digital Rapids Studio AVC Encoder (see separate press release), which combines AVC/H.264 video with embedded Closed Captioning, audio, and trick-play support into MPEG-2 transport streams.

“Version 2.4 provides significant enhancements for professional studios creating on-demand content for advanced platforms, many of which have very stringent technical requirements for encoded content,” said Brick Eksten, President of Digital Rapids Corporation. “Integration with Stream Transcode Manager will provide significant workflow efficiency gains in high-volume environments, while the new muxing architecture boosts productivity by enabling concurrent creation of files in multiple formats ranging from IPTV-ready VOD to mastering formats for HD authoring systems.”

The Stream software is available in three configurations – Stream LE™, StreamPro (with expanded workflow automation, integration, and transcoding capabilities) and StreamEnterprise (adding remote control capabilities). Stream LE is included with DRC-Stream™ ingest/encoding hardware bundles, with StreamPro available as a software option.
