August 23, 2004 Digital Rapids Secures 100 Channels of Windows Media 9 Streaming in Korea Telecom Deal
Richmond Hill, Ontario: Digital Rapids has secured a deal with Korea Telecom (KT) to provide StreamZ-2500 dual channel servers for up to 100 channels of Windows Media 9 streaming. KT is Korea’s leading telecommunication’s company and a world leader in the high-speed Internet market, Broadband Internet Subscribers exceed over 6 Million, making KT the world's best broadband service provider.
KT already uses the Windows Media 9 codec to stream at a data rate of 2Mpbs and frame rate of 30fps, providing its broadband customers, which include consumers, corporations, education and government departments, with the highest possible quality streaming solution. The Digital Rapids deal is part of KT’s latest expansion plans, with the first installation already begun and completion of the project expected by the end of 2004.
By 2005 KT will invest KRW14.6 trillion (USD 1.2 billion) in the expansion and upgrading of its backbone network, optical transmission network, e-commerce service, ADSL, and Internet infrastructure, delivering optical cable data transmission to large-scale buildings, apartment complexes, private residencies and remote farming and fishing villages.
KT’s broadband wireless local loop (B-WLL) and the satellite Koreasat 3 will cover dead ground in small towns, country areas and Islands. Internet/Data is expected to generate around 38% of KT’s core business in 2005 and has by far the highest growth potential of any of its core businesses.
To find the right solution KT evaluated all products on the market over a four-month period carrying out the most stringent tests and field trials, after which KT announced Digital Rapids as their preferred solution.
