April 24, 2006 Digital Rapids Chooses Accelera HD MPEG-2 Encoder for Acceleration of MPEG-2 for the StreamZ Product Family
Buckinghamshire, UK – Aspex Semiconductor™, a UK-based fabless semiconductor company developing leading-edge software programmable “Extreme Processors”, today announced that Digital Rapids Corporation, a leading developer of software and hardware solutions for real-time video ingest, playout, transcoding and streaming, has incorporated support for the Aspex Accelera HD MPEG-2 Encoder into their StreamZ family of products for real-time High Definition and Standard Definition encoding.
Digital Rapids’ StreamZ family of media encoding servers provide high-quality capture, encoding, streaming and transcoding of media to a wide range of output formats. StreamZ standard-definition models support analog or digital input sources, while the format-agile StreamZHD supports both HD and SD input sources and conversion between HD and SD formats. StreamZ encoding servers integrate easily into broadcast, enterprise and production environments, supporting the transition to IP-based infrastructures, and applications including archive, dailies, Video On Demand and streaming media delivery. The Aspex Accelera HD MPEG-2 Encoder will be available as an optional upgrade for StreamZ and StreamZHD systems.
The Aspex Accelera HD MPEG-2 Encoder, a PCI-card which provides MainConcept’s industry-standard software codec running on Aspex’s ultra-high performance Linedancer parallel processors will accelerate the encoding of Digital Rapids MPEG-2 encoding within StreamZ, providing real-time HD performance at the highest quality rates.
Brick Eksten, President, Digital Rapids Corporation, stated “We chose the Aspex solution to enable our customers to improve their workflow by accelerating the speed of MPEG-2 encoding. The increased performance enabled by the Aspex Accelera is particularly significant in high definition, and offers our customers an extra advantage in productivity in their competitive markets. By offloading the MPEG-2 processing from the StreamZ systems’ processors, the Aspex accelerator also leaves more resources available for encoding with other codecs simultaneously, further boosting our customers’ throughput.”
“The complexity of today’s content means that our customers face enormous performance challenges when it comes to encoding this content at speed. Using the Accelera MPEG-2 hardware acceleration platform ensures that partners like Digital Rapids can meet those performance challenges whilst providing the highest quality results, safe in the knowledge that the platform provides a future roadmap for further extensions,” said Jeremy Hendy, Vice President of Marketing for Aspex.
