Digital Rapids Expands Stream Transcode Manager Distributed Transcoding Software Line

NAB2007, Las Vegas, Booth SL10705: Digital Rapids – a leading developer of scalable solutions for content ingest, encoding, transcoding, protection and delivery – today unveiled two significant releases in the Stream Transcode Manager™ family of distributed media transcoding software. The new Stream Transcode Manager LE™ software offers the exceptional performance, load balancing intelligence and ease of use of Stream Transcode Manager in a lower-cost configuration tailored for customers without enterprise-level requirements. The full enterprise-level Stream Transcode Manager software also gains enhancements with new version 1.1, adding features such as server-level failover, extended database integration capabilities and clip manipulation.

The Stream Transcode Manager and Stream Transcode Manager LE software provide centralized management, automation and load balancing for high-volume, multi-format transcoding workflows, increasing production volume while reducing operational costs. Each Stream Transcode Manager or Stream Transcode Manager LE server works in conjunction with multiple Transcode Engines, intelligently assigning jobs for optimal throughput. Both versions go beyond standard load balancing by "learning" which Transcode Engines are most efficient for each type of encoding and allocating jobs accordingly. Additional features common to both configurations include multiple watch folder support, job-level failover, failure alert notification and automatic node detection for easy deployment. Stream Transcode Manager LE supports up to 10 Transcode Engines, while Stream Transcode Manager is fully scalable to an unlimited number.

The enterprise-level Stream Transcode Manager goes further beyond the feature set of Stream Transcode Manager LE with customizable report publishing, extended notification options, job prioritization and more. Multiple-console support enables monitoring and control of the system from multiple locations. Server-level failover, new in Stream Transcode Manager 1.1, automatically transfers management and control to a backup server if the primary server fails, ensuring that transcoding operations continue uninterrupted. Clip manipulations including head/tail clips and trimming enable the automatic removal or addition of bumpers, studio IDs, or other common content at the beginning and end of each transcode. Also new in Stream Transcode Manager 1.1 is support for a variety of third-party databases including Oracle 10g®, Microsoft® SQL Server 2005 and PostgreSQL.

"The enterprise-level Stream Transcode Manager is already the foundation of high-volume transcoding workflows for customers including major broadcast networks, media services companies and leading post production facilities, transcoding large libraries of content every day," said Brick Eksten, President of Digital Rapids Corporation. "Version 1.1 further advances the fault tolerance and integration capabilities for these customers, while our new Stream Transcode Manager LE lowers the cost of entry into intelligent distributed transcoding and makes it accessible to a wider range of media professionals and organizations."
